At Nurses R Us, our Seniors Early Interventions program works in partnership with seniors, their families and their caregivers to establish an individual mental health care plan that suits their personality, preferences and lifestyle. This supports one of our main goals which is to provide person centered care. We aim to promote positive mental health practices both in the home and in the community at large. The main part of our Seniors Early Interventions program is the therapeutic group sessions. Once every two weeks our seniors will meet at a designated location with other seniors from different geographical locations for 2 hours of social engagement.
Individual and Group Therapy has been proven to help seniors face their fears of death if they have such fears, and cope better with grief as friends and family members pass on. Our Group Therapy sessions are open to family members and other caregivers to attend as well. Common diagnoses associated with seniors often include depression and/or anxiety. Both Group and individual therapy have been proven through research to be able to help treat some of the symptoms associated with dementia. One of our main commitments at Nurses R Us is to observe any signs and symptoms and be able to make the correct and appropriate liaisons and referrals to other community agencies here in Northern Alberta. Through our group therapy sessions, we will be able to have a therapist that has specialized in geriatric care to facilitate the group sessions.
When it comes to fostering social interaction, the best activities for seniors are those that make it easy for older adults to mingle with their peers on a regular basis. Social activities for adults are aimed at helping mature individuals develop meaningful connections and enriching their lives. With that in mind, our seniors’ social groups will bring together seniors from all walks of life, engaging in meaningful and informative group sessions. Each time the groups meet, Nurses R Us hopes to serve light refreshments and snacks
